The Under 14 Girls were in action for the second time this 2012/13 season at The Peak, Stirling on Sunday 25th November.
The Wolves' first rival on the day was the powerful Polonia Phoenix. The Edinburgh team arrived undefeated and with forward, Hansine Marshall, in great form. The game looked like it would be an extremely difficult one, based on previous matches.
The Wolves started strongly, playing their usual high pace transition offence. This resulted in a comfortable gap on the scoreboard at halftime (26-11), although things were not so easy in the second half.
Due to a weaker Wolves defence, Polonia’s better players were able to capitalize on a number of easy scoring opportunities and the final two minutes of the game reflected only a two point lead for the West Lothian outfit.
Finally, excellent, under-pressure decision making from our perimeter players drove us to victory in the final minute of the game (42-35).
Leading scorers were Roko Bolatiki and Leah Stewart, with 10 points apiece, closely followed by Clare Young on eight. Once more Rachel Wallace put in an outstanding performance - dominating rebounds at either end of the court and playing faultlessly on defence.
The second game of the day saw the Wolves take on the Dunbar Dragons ‘B’ squad. As the East Lothian team offer all of their more promising players to the ‘A’ squad this has resulted in a weaker team who are currently bottom of the table.
The Wolves played extremely well and were focused on their game strategy and outscoring their opponents in every quarter.
The first half score was 23-6 to Wolves. However, coaching staff felt the ball movement wasn’t quick enough and neither was the reaction time of the players.
With this in mind, Coach Romero gave the team some pointers during the break and encouraged them to improve their performance in the second half and the players did exactly as they were asked…
Finally the passes were quicker, the speed increased resulting in some easy scoring opportunities and the game finished 62-10. Unfortunately, we missed one of our Future Starz players, Clare Young, due to a knee injury and we wish her a speedy recovery over the next few weeks.
Again, Leah Stewart and Roko Bolatiki were the lead scorers on 22 and 14 respectively. They were backed up by Rachel Wallace and Mili Bolatiki who secured eight points each. All in all a great team performance.
There are still a lot of games to go, but we couldn’t have wished for a better start.
Let's Go WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!
