Leah Stewart returned from San Marino a Champion, with the Scotland U15 Women winning the San Marino Cup.
I do not yet have a report on the final game, however I will get it posted once I can get it.
The Club would like to congratulate Leah on a great international season this summer as she played with both the Scotland U14 and 15 squads.
Keep up the hard work.
Leah Stewart (No. 21) in a time out
West Lothian Wolves' Leah Stewart continues to play well in her first stint for the Scotland U15 squad. Here is a report from their second game:
Game 2 – PFM Montecatini V Scotland
After an exciting opening ceremony the girls had an early start the next morning for a 10am tip against Montecatini.
Starting 5 for the match this morning – Erin Ruddy, Nicole Davidson, Sarah Beattie, Nina Gilbert and Leah Stewart.
A quick 2 points from the tip by Sarah and the girls were off to a flyer again. However, Coach McBrierty was determined the girls would not switch off, shouting words of encouragement and instructions to her young team from the off. The girls raced into a 15 -2 lead in the first 5 minutes with the first quarter finishing up at Scotland 19 Montecatini 4.
2nd Quarter The second quarter brought more of the same from the Under 15’s but Coach McB warned them that this was the quarter yesterday that nearly cost the game and she was determined that her girls would not do it again in this game. The girls played tough defence, double teaming on the half way line forcing the opposition to turn the ball over several times which resulted in points on the board for Scotland. Score at the half 38 – 12 with a vastly improved performance from the opening match.
No delays this time round and the young team came out all guns blazing again. The girls kept playing tough defence but started to play half court man and continually worked hard to keep forcing turnovers. The Montecatini team came back into the game for a short period toward the end of the 3rd but the young Scots were too strong. With 3 minutes to go in the 3rd Laura Young scored her first points of the game, she had made a fabulous contribution to the game up until that point, with several assists and some tough defence. She would go on to score 10 points and end up joint second top scorer with her cousin Emma. With Laura’s points on the board it meant all the players in the squad had now added to the score.
The fourth quarter allowed coaches McBrierty and Walls to try out some more combinations on court allowing big contributions from all players. The girls played some exciting basketball, doing everything the coaches asked of them and more.
Final score – PFM Montecatini 33 Scotland 88.
The girls won another game this morning, winning 71-13. Again Leah played well, scoring 10 points. Leah is really enjoying herself and can't wait to get back and share her experiences with her team mates here in West Lothian.
More reports to follow.
The West Lothian Wolves' very own Leah Stewart is currently away in San-Marino representing Scotland in the U15 National team.
So far the team has played two games, winning both. Leah got plenty of game time in the second game, finishing with 10 points and loads of experience that will surely help her continue to develop and improve as a player.
We will post more updates and try to get final scores of the games as the week goes on.
