S.W Wolves V Gracemount Panthers
Game Report: 15/04/2013
After a two week break due to the Easter holidays the Senior Women were back in action on Mon night (15th April) against the league’s newest team Gracemount Panthers. This was one of the few games this season the team had a full squad to call on and was also the first time the two teams had met.
Straight from the tip the Wolves scored which settled the team and set the tempo for the whole quarter. With a strong defence giving little away and good inside shooting the Wolves finished the
quarter 18- 0 ahead.
At the start of the second quarter the Wolves went to the bench which did little to change the momentum of the game. Again sound defence and good rebounding under the basket at both ends of the court allowed the Wolves to run a varied offense with great success. Keeping the scoreboard ticking over the Wolves won the quarter 20-3 – Kelly McGowan shooting 12pts.
The half finished 38-3 to the Wolves.
The third quarter continued the way of the previous two with the Wolves keeping the pace of the game high and making a number of telling interceptions. Giving the whole squad good court time was paying dividends as different combinations and plays could be run without disrupting the flow of the game. The quarter ended 20-5 to the Wolves.
With a good lead going into the final quarter the Wolves could have been expected to drop the tempo but a time out called by coach Marshall got the ladies back on track. Due to the high tempo of the game the Panthers began to tire and the Wolves picked off some slack passing to race upcourt on a number of
occasions to score or get fouled in the process. The quarter ended 24-6 giving the Wolves the win 82-14.
A good team effort from everyone in the squad and a performance which they look to carry on into the last few games of the season. Top scorers were Lynne McGill with 19pts and Flo Troestler with 16pts.
LET'S GO WOLVES!!
