Following their win over Pentland Star, the ladies took on Comets in their quarter final match on Wednesday night (13 March). Having faced Comets twice in the league which saw Comets win convincingly on both occasions you could almost be forgiven for thinking the results were a dead cert. Wrong!
It was a start we'd seen before with Comets quickly taking the lead. By the end of the first quarter the Wolves had only managed to notch up 3 points against the Comets' 16. Then the hard work began.
The Wolves rallied and starting with strong D and good defensive rebounds began to fight back. As the Wolves began to settle, their baskets began to sink.
The Wolves continued their momentum and stepped it up again in the third quarter. Running the plays through to success and fighting for every ball saw the Wolves win their first quarter, making the score 42 - 28.
Going into the fourth quarter Wolves were eager to build on their success and quickly began to dominate. The Wolves hustled hard and with only 30 seconds left to play had brought it to a 2-point game! In the dying seconds Comets made another basket to open the gap to 4. As the clock wound down Wolves remained tight to keep out Comets who were coming again following a steal in the final few seconds. Comets couldn't break through the defence as the final whistle blew, finishing the game 47 - 43.
It was a great team effort which saw this turn into an exciting game keeping everyone on the edge of their seats right to the end. Wolves now look to take the performance displayed in this game into their remaining games of the regular season. Let's Go Wolves!
