Last weekend, our U12 Boys and Girls travelled to Perth College UHI to take part in the National Challenge Competition.
On the Saturday, the boys took to the floor. They found themselves in a Tough Qualification Group against Dundee Madisons (The eventual competition winner) and St Mirren and following two tight games, they progressed to the Bronze Group in the Afternoon.
Two wins in the Bronze Group provided the boys with a very well earned 7th Place.
The Girls opened up the day with an excellent 38-22 win against Tayside Musketeers before taking on Ayr Storm in what turned out to be the game of the day.
Following two extremely close quarters (8-6 and 21-18 to Wolves), Ayr brought the game back to tie by the end of the 3rd.
Wolves retook the lead in the 4th to take the win 37-31 and qualify for the Gold Group in the Afternoon.
The Girls started the gold group off with a early 18-7 first quarter lead against Lady Rocks.
The Girls held the lead into Half Time (29-16) and following a back and forward 3rd Quarter, the lead was held at 14pts.
A forth quarter fightback from the Rocks brought the game to within 3 with just over a minute to go but the Wolves held strong to take the win 42-27.
The Girls then faced St Mirren knowing that a win would give them the Championship.
A tight game throughout left the Wolves trailing 21-20 going into the 4th Quarter but with 4 minutes to go they had turned it around to take the lead by 3.
Some excellent defence allowed Wolves to pull away and take the lead 33-22 and in turn the National Challenge Shield.
On top of becoming the first Wolves U12s team to win the National Challenge, our own Erin O'Sullivan was named the tournament All Star 5 by BasketballScotland.
Congratulations to both squads, for not only qualifying for the National Challenge in the first place, but for providing some excellent basketball and entertainment across an excellent weekend.
Next up is the turn of our U14 Teams who travel to Inverness Royal Academy this weekend for their own National Challenges.
Good luck to those taking the long drive north this weekend!!
