Highland Bears vs West Lothian Wolves
Wolves Squad: Jack Baxter, Martyn Burch, Sean McDonald, John McGinlay, Mark Peacock, Owen Shade, Josh Villaester, Jake Leighton.
Report:U18M opening game of the season saw the team make the long but very worth while trip up to the Highlands. A blistering start and similarly paced 4th Quarter from the Wolves proved too hot to handle for the team from the North.
Rapid fast breaks with accurate, strong passing play and very few missed shots soon racked up a sizeable cushion in Q1. However, such a pace cannot be sustained without significant depth on the bench; something that escaped the Junior Men on this occasion.
Quarters 2 and 3, although closer due to the slowed pace, still remained in the control of the Wolves. Some pointers for the coaches to work on were highlighted in those quarters, and these will be focus areas for training over the coming weeks.
It was eyeballs out again, moving the ball at pace on the fast break, once again, leaving the highlanders with little chance of preventing the onslaught.
This may prove to be one of the easier games of the season for the junior men, but it certainly did a lot to ease them back into competitive basketball, boost confidence and identify improvement opportunities for the season ahead.
Q2: 12-17 (19-47)
Q3: 19-23 (38-70)
Q4: 16-31 (54-101)
