Although we are a couple of months into the season and the cadette's are right in the middle of their season I thought it would be nice to recap the young ladies pre-season games. Game reports will follow more regularly for this and all other age groups. Lets get started then!!!
Beacon Basketball Club
Jesmond Centre, Aberdeen
U16 Women Friendly
Scoring by Quarters:
(13-9, 10-16, 8-23, 18-14)
Beacon 49-62 SWL
First pre-season game for the new SWL U16 Team vs a Division 2 squad (Beacon BC).
The Stirling/West Lothian squad played a deep 14 player rotation in order to everyone playing time, to try to mix the players up and try different combinations.
Slow first half in defensive transition with too many turnovers. This was a typical pre-season game which allowed the coaches to pick up lots of things to improve on when in our Aberdeen Camp.
Leah Stewart (16 points & 12 rebounds)
Rachel Wallace, strong defensive help
Mili Bolatiki, ball pressure and fast break speed.
9/15/2013 13:20:00Arbroath Sports Centre U16 Women - Friendly
Score by Quarter (19-14, 18-15, 10-17, 26-20)
Tayside 73-66 SWL
This was the second pre-season game for the SWL squad and the first one vs a Division 1 team.
The match was played at an extremely fast pace where we realized how tough National League Div.1 would be. The Musketeers clearly out rebounded us, but our perimeter players never stopped producing points.
Our team continuously put pressure on the ball forcing turnovers, which is definitely the way we want to play.
Leah Stewart (25 points & 5 assists)
Rachel Wallace (4 points & 12 rebounds)
Both new Wolves players, Forde and Legge, step by step are becoming part of the team and are improving in the right way
Wallace High School, U16 Women - Friendly
Score by Quarter (10-14, 17-8, 15-8, 17-15)
SWL 59-45 Stirling University
This game was a big challenge due to playing against a senior team. We worked hard to enforce our identity playing constantly with quick offence. Knowing that the rebounding war was lost due to physicality of the older and stronger players in the Stirling Team, we tried to work hard on 2v1 situations to stop Stirling attacking us from the posts. We pushed the ball well and managed to score 34 points on offensive transition and fast breaks.
Lauren Forde (19 points & 7 assists)
Roko Bolatiki (6 points & 7 steals)
Laura Baxter perfomance was superb providing the team with the right rhythm during the game.
City of Edinburgh KoolKats
Portobello High School, U16 Women - Friendly
Score by Quarter (12-22, 15-6, 6-18, 7-6)
Edinburgh KoolKats 40-53 SWL
This was our last friendly before the official competition starts. It was great to see that even In a legendary venue like Portobello our girls played their best game of the pre-season. After a great first quarter scoring over 50% of our shots, Kats blocked our offense and at halftime the game was totally open again, 27-28. We were able to find the right tempo in the second half which allowed us to eliminate the Kats biggest threat, their inside players.
Lauren Forde (21 points, 16 rebounds)
Laura Baxter (6 points, 5 assists)
Erynn Legge was the best defender of the game, who shut down the perimeter players for the Kats, great match for her.
