The Wolves Ladies were in action on Monday night against the Edinburgh Kats. The Wolves were of high spirit following their win against Dunfermline and any thoughts the Kats had of an 'easy win' were quickly dispersed.
The game started with a composed Wolves team running the plays well and keeping the pressure on Kats to take the early lead. Great shooting by F.Troestler meant the first quarter ended with the Wolves up by 2 points. In the second quarter, the Kats made a number of 3-point shots to make up the defecit and take over the lead. Strong defense by the Wolves meant it remained a 2-point game going into half time, however it was in Kats favour with the score 20-22.
Going into the 3rd quarter the Wolves remained focussed and looked to recover the lead, keeping the pressure on Kats. Tempers were high and the Kats gave away 4 free-throws as a result of Technical Fouls made by both the coach and a player. Unfortunately the Wolves missed both sets of free throws and failed to take over the lead. The Wolves did win the quarter 13-12 bringing the score to within 1-point.
In the 4th quarter it was all or nothing and both teams looked to secure the win. Strong defense gave the Wolves a number of steals but they were unable to take advantage of several of them. The baskets they did make were equally retaliated by the Kats. The final quarter was a draw meaning the Kats retained the 1-point lead winning 39 - 40.
Although the Wolves didn't win the game it was a far cry from their earlier game against Kats, which saw Kats winning 61-38. It was a stong performance by the Wolves which they need to keep up & build on in order to secure further wins. Top scorer was F.Troestler with 15 points.
