Senior Women vs Pentland Star
17 Feb at Linlithgow Academy
Owing to an earlier cancellation, this was the first time that Pentland Star and WL Wolves had met this season. Although Pentland were first to get a point on the board with an early free throw, it was Wolves who dominated with Nicole Marshall and Lynne McGill leading the way on points with 7pts & 6pts in the first quarter. With a further two points from Kelly McGowan and Vicki Whigham, at the end of the first quarter Wolves were 12 points ahead at 17-5.
Going into the second quarter Pentland put more pressure on the ball and worked hard on D to keep the Wolves out. Wolves responded in kind and the teams were evenly matched making it 9-all for the quarter and 26 – 14 overall.
The game started with a high intensity after the break with both teams fighting for every loose ball and rebound. Each side looked to run their plays and find gaps in the defence to notch up more points. The Wolves soon found themselves in foul trouble but it was not enough for Pentland to take full advantage and Wolves won the quarter 18-17.
In the final quarter Wolves looked to cement their lead and keep Pentland at bay. Having taken advantage of the bench throughout the game the Wolves were still strong with high energy. The Wolves put on another solid performance in the final quarter and were first to put points on the board. They continued to run the plays and good movement inside the key enabled them to capitalise on opportunities and increase their lead. With a final quarter score of 16 – 8, the game finished 60 – 39.
Another solid team performance from the Wolves with N.Marshall and L.McGill taking top spot on scoring with 15pts & 12pts respectively.
